Ingredients
- As many or as few beets as you wish.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 F.
- Wash beets, making sure most of the dirt is removed.
- Place beets on a rimmed baking sheet or in a glass baking dish.
- Add water so there is about ½” of water that the beets are sitting in.
- Cover the baking sheet or dish with aluminum foil.
- Baking time depends on the number and size of beets, but 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes is typical. Longer if beets are large and there is a large quantity of them.
- Check doneness by carefully peeling back the aluminum foil and poking a fork into the beets. If it easily pierces the beet, they are done.
- Once removed from the oven, remove the aluminum foil and let cool completely or until you can safely handle the beets in your hand. At this point, you can peel the beets with a paring knife.
- Store in an airtight container or serve warmed with a bit of butter.
