August 6, 2026

As we wrap up the first week of August, we are right in the thick of peak growing and harvest season. The heat this summer has been no joke, creating real challenges for both our field crews and our crops. There are many early mornings to ensure we can get work done before it’s just too hot to harvest in our high tunnels.
We are immensely grateful for our irrigated acres, but irrigation brings its own set of hurdles: broken motors, stuck pivots, and the kind of mechanical headaches that make us long for standard rainfall.
Nothing Beats Natural Rainfall
Last Friday’s all-day rain was an absolute blessing. It came down steadily for hours without pounding or damaging the crops, soaking deep into the ground to replenish our depleted subsoils.
While we still have a ways to go, there were definitely a few happy dances happening around here as Mother Nature did her thing! There’s just something great about sitting back and watching the rain come down that re-energizes our team. It let us take a beat and reset, which was much needed by everyone.
As helpful as irrigation is, nothing beats natural rainfall. Rain carries atmospheric nitrogen down into the soil, delivering a vital nutrient boost right where plants need it most. Irrigation water keeps the crops hydrated, but it doesn't offer that extra surge of nutrition. We are still endlessly thankful for the equipment that keeps us afloat, even on the days when it tests our patience.
Harvest Season and Locally Grown Produce
Despite the summer heat, harvest season is in full swing! Tomatoes, sweet corn, peppers, green beans, cantaloupes, watermelon, the list feels endless. It’s always incredible to look back on the last few months and appreciate how far these crops have come. Every now and then, we pause and marvel at how a single tiny cantaloupe seed transforms into a massive, thriving vine overflowing with sweet melons.

Food Safety and Locally Grown Produce
When it comes to enjoying the harvest, nothing compares to fresh and local. With so many questions surrounding the recent increase in foodborne illnesses, we want you to feel comfortable shopping with us. Choosing locally grown produce means you are getting food picked at peak flavor and optimal nutritional value, straight from the fields to your table.
Just as importantly, food safety is a priority for us. From rigorous field sanitation and safe handling practices during harvest to temperature controls and careful packing, we take every precaution to ensure the produce you purchase is clean, safe, and free from contamination. You can feel completely confident feeding your family the very best our farm has to offer.

One Day at a Time
Looking ahead to the rest of the month, we are taking things one day at a time. With the summer we have experienced this year, it is truthfully, the best our team can do right now. And honestly, we seem to be doing alright. We think Jerry would be proud.
August brings its own brand of hustle, but we manage by pacing ourselves. You might notice that greenhouses have come down at our larger farm stand locations. Don't worry, we aren't closing! This transition allows our team to clean up, reset, and prepare the space for the vibrant mums and fall décor arriving later this month.
The Shelves are Overflowing
Now is actually the absolute best time to visit our Farm Stands regularly. The shelves are overflowing with peak-season produce, from sweet corn and ripe tomatoes to Black Diamond watermelons and Colorado peaches.
It's also prime time to stock up and preserve a bit of summer for the winter months ahead. Freezing, canning, or dehydrating strawberries, sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, onions, and peppers is easier than you think. If food preservation feels intimidating, don't worry. There are countless step-by-step guides available to help you get started, and we make ordering bulk quantities effortless.
We can’t wait to welcome you to a Farm Stand soon!
