A Note From The Untiedt Farm Family
First and foremost, thank you for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support over the past two weeks. Hearing your stories and learning about the profound impact Farmer Jerry had on so many of you has meant the world to the entire Untiedt family.
While Jerry may be gone, the legacy he built remains our top priority as we step forward into the future.
Stepping Into Big Shoes
Grief can be heavy, but Jerry prepared us for this moment. Over the past few years, Paul, Trent, Megan, and Jenna have frequently taken the lead whenever Jerry was out of commission.
The main difference now? We no longer have Jerry to bounce ideas off of, and he’s no longer here to offer his "two cents" every few minutes or ask why something hasn’t been completed in the field yet.
As much as his non-stop commentary could make us smile, and occasionally drive us crazy, we know he was simply preparing all of us for this moment. Now, it’s our turn to step fully into his shoes and keep things moving forward as smoothly as possible.
We invite you along on this next chapter. Our promise to you is simple: carry on the Untiedt legacy, make Jerry proud, and continue serving our community without missing a beat.
Life on the Farm: Business Almost as Usual
Life on the farm has been a whirlwind this past month, but we are pushing through and getting the job done. Everyone has taken on new roles and extra tasks, and we’re managing to keep things running smoothly, with only a few minimal hiccups there and there.
If there’s one thing giving us a good laugh right now, it’s the phone calls from folks saying:
"Jerry told us this was going to happen — he let you know, right?"
Well... no, he didn’t! But rest assured, we’re handling it. That was just classic Jerry: he was so deeply involved and in love with every detail of the farm that he’d simply forget to share the details with anyone else!
Beat the Heat & Crop Updates
The recent reprieve from the heat has been glorious, not just for the crops, but for our entire crew. If you thought it was hot outside, imagine the high tunnels. Temperatures regularly soared well over 120°F. Even starting bright and early at 6:00 AM, inside temperatures were already hitting 90°F+. This happens every growing season, but we always welcome this little reprieve of cooler temps for a few days between long strings of hot weather.
While the heat took a toll on our harvesting team, it did work a few miracles for the harvest! The warm spell pushed several crops ahead of schedule, including cantaloupes, watermelons, and sweet corn.
The first of the homegrown cantaloupes have been at the farm stands for a little over a week, while the first homegrown watermelons will be hitting the shelves within the next few days. Oh, and for all of you waiting? Sugar Cube season has arrived.
The Best Part
We’ve officially entered the absolute best part of the Minnesota growing season! Though our growing window may be short, we are blessed with incredible fruits and vegetables this time of year. Shop local when you can, because you sure can’t beat the freshness and flavor.
Remember, our inventory changes daily at the Farm Stands, so pop by often to see what’s fresh. Try making your meal this week with only locally sourced items, let us know what you come up with!
