This time of year is naturally one for thanks and gratitude. As the seasons change and the holidays approach, we at Untiedt's are reflecting on the deep community roots that guide everything we do, especially our desire to give back.
We know that food insecurity is a pressing issue right now, impacting far too many of our neighbors. That’s why, throughout the growing season, Untiedt’s makes a strong commitment to support local food shelves and community organizations that are on the front lines of food distribution.
Our Commitment: Fresh Produce for Those in Need
Providing access to fresh, healthy produce is at the heart of our mission. We work hard to contribute high-quality produce to these organizations in a couple of key ways:
- Direct Bulk Donations: We regularly donate fresh produce in bulk, allowing organizations to distribute it directly to those who need it most.
- Affordable Partnerships: Fresh produce is often considered a luxury item due to its expense. We partner with food shelves to offer loads of produce at a price they can afford, often letting them pay what they can. This allows their budgeted funds to stretch further, giving them more bang for their buck and supplying their clients with nutritious ingredients.
By the Numbers
We are committed to providing fresh produce for approximately 22-25 weeks a year, working out to more than 800,000 pounds of fresh produce annually for those in need!
From asparagus to zucchini, apples to winter squash, and sweet corn to tomatoes, we conscientiously work with partner organizations to ensure the produce we provide is culturally acceptable for the diverse demographics they serve.
Our Key Community Partners
We are honored to partner with incredible organizations doing essential work across the region. A few of the key organizations we proudly support include:
- ICA of Minnetonka
- Harvest from the Heart, Minneapolis
- Humanity Alliance
- Annandale Food Shelf
- Second Harvest Heartland
In addition to these regular partners, we also work with countless community groups through one-off donations for church, school, and community festivals, hoping to make a positive impact in the communities we serve.
How We Make the Donations Happen
Our ability to give back relies on a little elasticity in our growing model. While our priority is always supplying our retail locations and wholesale customers, we sometimes have extra produce available. Instead of composting this excess, we make sure it gets into the hands of those who need it.
Additionally, when we have an ample supply of a specific, in-demand item, we do our best to offer it to organizations at a reduced market value.
