Crisp Mornings And Changing Leaves

Crisp Mornings And Changing Leaves

October 8, 2026

There is nothing quite like an autumn morning on the farm. The air is cool and crisp, the sun shines down bright, and the leaves are putting on a breathtaking display of fall colors.

While parking might be a bit chaotic right now, mostly because our parking lot is overflowing with pumpkins of every shape and size, we wouldn't trade this view for anything!

Here is a look at what is happening around the fields this week, plus a fall guide to help you pick the perfect pumpkins at our farm stands.

Transitioning the Harvest

We are wrapping up the final harvests of our summer favorites while shifting primary focus to the big fall harvest and farm cleanup. It’s your last week to get sweet corn! And, it’s pretty phenomenal right now. We think Farmer Jerry may have a thing or two to do with this!

Parking Lot Overflow

Pumpkins, squash, and gourds currently fill our lot, ready to be packed and shipped out to our farm stands and community partners.

Prepping for Winter Rest

You might wonder why we can’t jump into the fields first thing on a crisp fall morning. We have to wait until the morning dew fully dries off the vines and pumpkin rinds. Sometimes this happens by noon, other days we can’t start harvesting until 3 or 4pm.

Harvesting wet pumpkins and gourds traps moisture against the skin and stems. When moisture is present, it invites fungal rot, decay, and mildew, all of which are not great for the fruit. Waiting for the sun to dry everything off ensures that the harvested pumpkins stay healthy, store well, and last much longer on your front porch or kitchen table.

Carve it our cook it? When you visit our farm stands this season, the variety of choices can feel overwhelming. With so many shapes, colors, and sizes crowding the displays, it helps to know that not all pumpkins and gourds are created equal!

Once the autumn season winds down and Halloween is behind us, don't throw those decorative pumpkins in the trash! As long as your uncarved, display pumpkins are still unpainted, wax-free, and firm, there are plenty of eco-friendly and fun ways to give them a second life.
