April 28, 2026
They say April showers bring May flowers, so after Monday’s all-day soaker, we are certainly holding them to that promise! While the rain was a welcome sight for our fields, we’re now having a polite word with Mother Nature about the thermometer. We are eager to open our greenhouses this week, but with some chilly nights still lurking in the long-range forecast, we’re playing a high-stakes game of "wait and see."
What Does it Take to Open 7 Locations?
It’s a loaded question, but for the past three weeks, it’s been our entire world. Here is a peek behind the curtain at what goes into launching our Greenhouse and Farm Stand season:
- The Setup: Our incredible building crew has been hard at work getting all seven locations ready. Aside from one rainy day, the weather cooperated beautifully for the heavy lifting.
- The Manager’s Touch: Once the structures are up, we hand the keys to our location managers. They have total creative freedom over their layouts and displays. Fun Fact: Our managers talk to each constantly, sharing ideas and tips, which is why you’ll often see a similar "family resemblance" across all our stands!
- The Forecast Factor: This is the part where we want to bang our heads against the wall. We have staff ready to work and customers anxious for their "flower fix," but we refuse to ship plants until the temperatures cooperate.
The Greenhouse Difference: Quality Over "Big Box" Convenience

You might notice that big-box stores already have plants sitting outside in the cold. Those stores often order their plants six months in advance with rigid delivery dates, meaning those flowers are shipped whether it’s 70°F or 30°F.
At our farm, we do things differently. We won’t jeopardize a plant’s health just to hit a calendar date. If it’s too cold, we keep the plants safe in our heated greenhouses until they are ready to thrive.
We know we can’t always match the prices of giant national retailers, but we will compete on quality all day long. Our team spends weeks deadheading and caring for the plants to ensure they are bushy, healthy, and full of buds when they finally reach you. We want you to be blown away by the blooms the moment you walk in. Not only do we want to blow you away with the quality, but with service as well. Let our staff welcome you in and help you plant your best garden yet!
The First Shipment Whirlwind
Once the "Go" signal is given, the farm turns into a beehive:
- Selection: A small crew (six or seven workers) hand-picks every single plant. If it isn't big enough or blooming yet, it stays behind.
- The Workout: We always joke that greenhouse workers don't need gym memberships. Unloading 4-5 hours' worth of trucks in a single afternoon is the ultimate cardio.
- The "Where is that Petunia?" Phase: The first day is a blur of activity as staff members hustle to organize thousands of flats, baskets, and pots. It’s chaotic, exhausting, and incredibly rewarding to see the empty stands turn into a sea of color by sunset.

More Than Just Flowers
While the greenhouses are the stars of the show right now, the rest of the farm is firing on all cylinders too.
- Tomatoes: More are heading into the ground this week to ensure we have your favorite red tomatoes until frost.
- Strawberries: Thousands of plants are waiting for their turn in the soil.
- Apple Orchard: We’re finishing up the last of the apple tree pruning.
- Asparagus: It’s almost harvest time—keep your butter and lemon ready!
Our tentative opening plan for the week is posted on our Farm Stands page. Stay tuned for up-to-the-minute news on our socials for any additional updates. We can't wait to see you at the stands!
