Ingredients
- 4 cups -Cranberries (fresh or frozen)
- ¼ cup -Water
- 8 cups -Sliced, peeled cooking apples (ie. Fireside, Sweet Sixteen, Haralson)
- 2 cups -Sugar
- Optional: pecans, orange zest, raisins, currants, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice
Directions
- In a large pot, simmer cranberries & water for 20-25 minutes, or until cranberries burst.
- Add apples, cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes until desired texture is achieved. The longer you cook the apples, the more smooth the texture.
- Add sugar and optional spices, simmer 5 more minutes.
- Pour into heat-proof bowls and let cool to room temperature, then chill in refrigerator. Sauce will thicken as it cools.
