Sugar Cube Melons

If you think you know cantaloupe, wait until you try a Sugar Cube. These "personal melons" are bred specifically for intense sweetness and a deep, tropical aroma. Because they are smaller, the flavor is more concentrated than those giant supermarket melons. It’s like eating a bowl of candy straight from the vine!

We harvest these when they naturally "slip" from the vine, which means they are at their maximum ripeness. They are ready to eat the moment you get them home!

Sold individually at farm stands. Look for a melon that feels heavy for its size. Give it a sniff at the stem end. It should smell floral and sweet. Typically available mid August through September.

When this product is in season, it can be purchased at Untiedt's Farm Stands. We harvest by hand and deliver to our Farm Stands daily.

Because Sugar Cubes are the perfect size for one or two people, they make a natural "bowl." Skip the dishes! Just cut the melon in half, scoop out the seeds, and fill the center with a scoop of vanilla Greek yogurt or cottage cheese for the best farmhouse breakfast you'll ever have.

If you aren't eating it immediately, keep it on the counter for 1–2 days. Once ripe, move it to the fridge to stop the ripening process.

Sugar Cube melons have a powerful, floral aroma that can actually "flavor" other items in your fridge (like butter or milk) if left uncovered. Always wrap a cut melon tightly in beeswax wrap or plastic wrap, or store it in an airtight container. This keeps the melon juicy and prevents its scent from wandering!
