Strawberries

Ripe strawberries are firm and bright with fresh green caps and a sweet aroma. Locally-grown strawberries smell and taste best at room temperature.

Sold at farm stands by the quart. Always shop for berries with your nose! If you can’t smell the fragrance, they won’t taste sweet. Typically in season from late June through October.

Rinse off the berries and remove the green tops before eating.

Do not wash until you eat them. Fresh picked berries will keep for 3-4 days in the refrigerator depending on their ripeness. Store in a shallow Tupperware container.

To freeze, wash berries and remove green tops. Let berries dry on a clean towel. Place whole berries on a cookie sheet and freeze. Once berries are frozen, pop them into a Ziplock bag for easy storage and freeze.
